The PGA Tour remains the dominant week-to-week men’s professional circuit in the United States. Its 2026 FedExCup regular season includes 35 official FedExCup events, with players accumulating points toward the postseason. The top 70 advance to the FedExCup Playoffs, which culminate at the Tour Championship.
The PGA Tour schedule mixes full-field tournaments, Signature Events, majors and co-sanctioned or internationally connected events. The DP World Tour is the modern name of the European Tour and operates a much more geographically dispersed schedule. In 2026 the tour describes itself as a global circuit, with 42 tournaments across 26 countries during the season.
Its season-long points race is the Race to Dubai, which leads to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The tour stages national opens and other events across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.
The PGA Tour and DP World Tour are connected through a Strategic Alliance, but that does not make them one tour. The alliance creates selected pathways and co-sanctioned opportunities while each organization still operates its own schedule, membership and season-long competition.
LIV Golf: team franchises plus individual competition
LIV Golf uses a different structure. For 2026, the league expanded regular-season fields to 57 players: 13 four-player teams plus five Wild Card players. It also moved regular events to 72 holes and continues to run individual and team competition at the same events.
The 2026 season contains 14 events. LIV’s five Wild Card positions are designed as individual entry pathways outside the 13 team rosters, with routes tied to the International Series and LIV Golf Promotions.
The team component is the clearest structural difference for casual fans. PGA Tour and DP World Tour events are fundamentally individual stroke-play competitions even when some special team events exist. LIV Golf builds team standings and team prizes into its regular league identity.
How the schedules differ
The PGA Tour is primarily U.S.-centered with selected international stops and a FedExCup season. The DP World Tour is built around a broad international calendar and the Race to Dubai. LIV Golf operates a shorter global league schedule built around 14 events and team franchises.
Those differences influence travel, field composition and how fans follow each season. A PGA Tour fan may track FedExCup points; a DP World Tour fan may focus on the Race to Dubai; a LIV fan follows both individual results and team performance.
Do players move between the tours?
Movement exists, but the pathways are not identical. The PGA Tour and DP World Tour have formal strategic links that create selected access opportunities. LIV Golf uses its own roster system plus Wild Card qualification. Eligibility for specific majors is a separate question because the four major championships set their own qualification and exemption criteria.
